Propecia baldness pill is the first and only FDA-approved pill proven to treat male pattern hair loss on the vertex (top of the head) and anterior mid-scalp area in men.
Propecia (Finasteride) was originally a drug called Proscar, which was used to treat and reduce men’s prostate conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Its parent company, Merck & Co., soon realized that the drug had a unique side effect - it grew hair on bald men’s heads.
Propecia (Finasteride) has been approved for the treatment of Male Pattern Hair Loss since 1998.
Propecia targets loss on the top and middle front of the head. It is not proven whether it is also effective in treating receding hairlines. This is to be used for males only.
Women and especially children cannot use Propecia.
In clinical studies for Propecia, a small number of men experienced certain sexual side effects, such as less desire for sex, difficulty in achieving an erection, or a decrease in the amount of semen. Each of these side effects occurred in less than 2% of men and went away in men who stopped taking PROPECIA because of them.
